About the exhibition
Artist's books is a small but growing visual medium. These ten artists express their interest in this form beyond the emphasis of the visual over the literary aspect, and explore the sculptural as well. They expand upon preconceptions of the book as merely a structure for written information and its considered flatness. Their pieces become powerful sculptural objects incorporating diverse, sometimes unconventional, materials. The exhibition at the Kentler International Drawing Space in Red Hook will function as an installation, as walls, shelves and pedestals will combine to create a room of book objects. A concurrent exhibition at Brooklyn Public Library, Grand Army Plaza will showcase the work of each of the artists individually. An Artist Talk is scheduled for December 6th at 3pm at Kentler. Several artists from the exhibition will be available to discuss their work and the role of the book as art.
