Koto is the traditional Japanese instrument with thirteen strings. Koto are made of wood (
Paulownia tomentosa) and roughly 71 inches in length. Thirteen strings are strung over thirteen movable bridges along the width of the instrument. Japanese koto has a characteristic sound that is often described as the image of water.
