Art Education<\/strong> is the educational branch of Kentler International Drawing Space. Serving over 1,000 Red Hook youth and families per year, K.I.D.S. 90-minute workshops offer hands-on exploration, critical dialogue, and empowerment through creative experiences. All programs are based on our exhibitions, bringing participants face-to-face with exciting and innovative artworks from around the world.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><strong>Special thanks<\/strong> for support to continue our<em> virtual programming<\/em> during the Covid19 pandemic: NYC COVID-19 Response and Impact Fund in The New York Community Trust, Mildred Miller Fort Foundation, the Small Business Administration\u2019s Paycheck Protection Program, the Creative Motif Fund, The Bo Bartlett Center, and many individuals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OUR PROGRAMS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentlergallery.org\/news\/index.php\/family-programs\/\">DRAWING TOGETHER Family Art Programs<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0 In-person programs resume on June 12 and will be held every other Saturday through July 25.\u00a0<em><strong>Virtual<\/strong> <\/em>DRAWING TOGETHER workshops are still released every other Saturday morning. Families with kids age 4+ to create fun, hands-on art projects at home.\u00a0 All videos can be accessed on our website. <a href=\"https:\/\/kentlergallery.org\/news\/index.php\/family-programs\/\">Click Link<\/a>.\u00a0 Please enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentlergallery.org\/news\/index.php\/youth-programs\/\">Special Needs Residencies<\/a>: <\/strong>Specialized in-school programs offered in partnership with Special Education teachers from local public schools. Our Teaching Artists work with classroom teachers to design activities that support and enhance curriculum topics. Each season includes six sessions, including off-site workshops in the gallery, and builds toward a collaborative and interactive final project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentlergallery.org\/news\/index.php\/youth-programs\/\">After-School Programs<\/a>: <\/strong>Offered to K-5 and middle school youth in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. After-School programs are 10-week immersive courses tailored to the skills, interests and abilities of student participants. Each course culminates in a final exhibition and presentation of student work. Current and recent partners include Extreme Kids &amp; Crew, PAVE Academy and Red Hook Initiative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4) Other Community Partnerships:<\/strong>\u00a0In addition to our regular programming, K.I.D.S. Art Education regularly partners with community groups, nonprofits and independent educators to provide long and short-term programs\u00a0in a range of areas. Often\u00a0these collaborations take place\u00a0during\u00a0the summer and\u00a0on weekends, serving\u00a0camp groups, special needs populations, and attendees of community events.<\/p>\n<p>Current and recent community partners include:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.extremekidsandcrew.org\">Extreme Kids\u00a0&amp;\u00a0Crew\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecreativecookie.com\">The Creative Cookie\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dtetc.org\">Dance Theatre Etcetera&#8217;s Annual Red Hook Fest<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohny.org\">Open House New York<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artyardbklyn.org\/\">\u00a0Art Yard BKLYN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>K.I.D.S. ART EDUCATION TEACHING ARTISTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Karina Cavat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Karina Cavat is a visual artist and a children\u2019s art teacher. She has over twenty years teaching experience working in public and private schools, colleges, museums and community art centers.<\/p>\n<p>Cavat received\u00a0a B.F.A in painting from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.purchase.edu\/\">SUNY Purchase College<\/a>\u00a0and a M.F.A in painting from P<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newschool.edu\/parsons\/\">arsons, School of Design<\/a>. She was awarded\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cies.org\/\">Fulbright Scholarship<\/a>\u00a0in painting to Rome, Italy and exhibits her work on a national level. \u00a0In 2018 she received an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklyn.cuny.edu\/courses\/acad\/program_info.jsp?major=660&amp;div=G&amp;dept_code=28&amp;dept_id=524#660\">Advanced Certificate<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0art education K-12 from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklyn.cuny.edu\/\">Brooklyn College<\/a>.\u00a0She has been leading Drawing Together Workshops at Kentler since 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quentin Williamston<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brooklyn native Quentin Williamston earned his Masters Degree in Architecture from Hampton University in Virginia. He was a recipient of the Gordon Parks Centennial Scholarship which supported his college studies. Quentin enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Kentler international drawing space KIDS program beginning as a teaching artist at PS 15 with the Special Education program. He has made a commitment to bringing thought-provoking and inspiring art education to underserved youth. In the summer of 2018 Quentin traveled to In his own art practice Quentin enjoys working with watercolor, pen and ink.
