Kentler International Drawing Space is pleased to present We Could Be Heroes, Just For One Day, a sweeping selection of 75 artworks by 19 artists from the Kentler Flatfiles, curated by independent curator and educator Dara Meyers-Kingsley.

This exhibition explores the concept of heroism in its many incarnations in art and culture. Inspired by the David Bowie song, Heroes, Meyers-Kingsley broadens the definition of “hero” to encompass the divine and the everyday. Subjects range from mythic beings and iconic symbols to cherished loved ones and community members. This vibrant selection also highlights the breadth and diversity of the Kentler Flatfiles, including drawings, prints, collages, and photographs (from the Red Hook Archives) spanning more than 30 years.

The Kentler Flatfiles have been an essential element of the organization since its founding in 1990. A collection of over 2,000 works on paper by 300 local, national and international artists, this living archive represents the incredible scope and variety of contemporary drawings, prints & works on paper. The Flatfiles are available for viewing and purchase by appointment and are digitally cataloged on our website.
